Review: Sothys Paris Summer Chill Make-Up Collection (Spring/Summer 2019)

The Sothys Paris Spring/Summer 2019 Summer Chill Make-Up Collection draws inspiration from relaxing summer vibes for a Parisienne chic beauty look.

Sothys, an avant-garde beauty expert, offers a line of innovative skin and body care as well as a makeup line with limited-edition collections inspired by the seasons. The Summer Chill collection features luminous nude shades that are complemented by fresh, vibrant tones of fuchsia and poppy.

The Bronzing Powder* looks and smells like summer with its pleasant vanilla fragrance and beautifully etched outline design. It comes in the shade Terre Lointaine which is a neutral bronze that is universally flattering. The matte finish makes it very wearable and perfect for a natural day look. It’s my secret for creating a sun-kissed glow without the damaging UV rays. Since I am very fair-skinned, bronzers can make my complexion look orange or muddy, but this one gives me a healthy tanned look. It’s also a great product for travel with its secure magnetic closure and convenient mirror.

My favourite product of the collection is the eyeshadow quad. I don’t usually purchase eyeshadow palettes because they always have one or two shades that are too dark or too red-toned for me to use, but that is not the case with the Ombre Sothys Harmonie De Tons Nude Eye Quartet Palette*. All shades in this quad are flattering variations of nude that can be used to create effortless, wearable eye looks for day or night. The iridescent colours include champagne, peach, plum, and brown. The champagne and peach are beautiful as lid shades or brow highlights, and the plum and brown look beautiful in the crease or as a liner. In addition to the shades, the formula is very impressive. It’s a silky, velvety powder that feels almost like a cream. It adheres well to the eyelid, even without a primer. When I’m in a rush, I use my finger to dab one of the lighter shades on my lid, swipe on a coat of mascara, and I’m ready to go. I have not experienced any creasing or fading. Like the bronzer, this compact has a magnetic closure and a mirror. If you are only looking to try one item from this collection, this quad is my recommendation.

To complement a soft, natural eye look, this collection includes a Contour Lip Pencil* in a universally flattering shade. I would describe it as a nude pink that looks great on its own for a your-lips-but-better effect or as a base for any other lip colour. The matte formula is long-wearing without feeling dry. I like to enhance my lips by applying this product and then blending it out with my finger for a soft look. Sometimes I will add a bit of lip gloss or balm to change up the finish. I think this pencil would be a useful edition to any makeup collection.

As someone who has small lips and little time to spend on precise lipstick application in the morning, I really appreciate the collection’s Lipstick Pencils*. They are slim, easy to apply even without a mirror, and they have the most delicious blackberry scent that’s of reminiscent a cool summer sorbet. The smooth formula is enriched with shea butter to nourish, brown algae extract to plump, and castor oil to add shine. This collection includes two unique shades, and I hope that more colours will be released with future collections.

Fuchsia Fauve is a muted fuchsia colour that’s perfectly chic and sophisticated. With it’s pretty, glossy finish, it’s the perfect day or night shade for spring. The colour and sweet smell remind me of juicy berries ripening in the sun as nature awakens from a cold winter. I have worn this shade many times and always receive compliments.

Rouge OrangĂ© is summer in a lipstick. This poppy shade is a spiced up version of fuchsia with a hint of orange that offers a bright yet wearable pop of colour. This lipstick plus a cute bathing suit and a pair of sunglasses is my idea of an effortlessly chic summer poolside look.

I can’t write a Sothys seasonal makeup collection review without mentioning the nail polish*. As a nail polish lover and collector, I have always appreciated the formula of Sothys polishes. They are glossy, pigmented, long-wearing, and enriched with vitamins B5, C, E, and sweet almond oil to protect and nourish the nails. The nail polish in this collection is in the shade Fuchsia Fauve. It’s similar in colour to the Fuchsia Fauve Lipstick Pencil, but the nail polish is bolder and looks more berry-toned than it appears in the photo above. I love this radiant shade and know that it will be my go-to pedicure polish for spring and summer.

Overall, the Summer Chill Collection includes a perfect combination of natural and vibrant to capture the effortlessly chic vibes of the season. I appreciate that Sothys created a collection of very wearable yet fun shades that are complemented by luxurious formulas and finishes. For me, this collection is all about fresh, natural beauty that’s bright and invigorated for the coming seasons. These products fit with my style and lifestyle and are some of my all time favourites from Sothys. In addition to the items featured in my post, the collection also includes a coral-toned blush with a golden shimmer that I plan to pick up for summer since I love how glowy blushes look in the sunlight.
