Sephora Haul + Mini Reviews
It’s been almost a year since my last Sephora haul, so I decided it was time to purchase a few new items to start off 2017.
The first product that I purchased is a regular in my beauty collection. For years I have been wearing bareMinerals mascaras. Buxom Lash was my first love, but my new favourite is the Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara. My favourite thing about this mascara is its ability to lengthen lashes with clump-free precision. I can’t stand a clumpy lash! When I wear mascara, I want it to look like I have naturally long, dark, separated lashes, not that I have layers of makeup on. I received a sample of this a while ago and was so impressed by its clump-free application that I have been purchasing it ever since. I also love how it doesn’t flake on me, even when I accidentally fall asleep with it on. My only complaint about Lash Domination is that, despite how careful I am, I often get a bit of it on my eyelid during application. This has never happened to me with other mascaras, and I’m wondering if it’s due to the large twisty brush. bareMinerals does have a version of this mascara with a “Petite” brush which I may consider trying in the future. I only hope that the formula is identical. There is also a “Revamped” formula. I don’t know what the difference is, but many of the complaints that I have read about this mascara are about how it takes too long to try. I have never encountered this problem (likely because I apply such a thin coat of it), so I did not purchase the revamped version. If you are as opposed to mascara clumps as I am, you may want to give the original formula a try.
The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette is the product that motivated me to place this Sephora order. Since I don’t wear any foundation, I am always on the search for highlighting powders, blushes, etc. that will make my skin look naturally airbrushed and glowy. This product seemed very promising based on the reviews I have read, so I thought that it was worth purchasing despite its C$70 price tag. When I received it, it was just as beautiful as I had imagined. The powders looked incredibly soft and smooth. When I applied them to my skin, they melted in and gave me that flawless, airbrushed effect that I had hoped for. They were also long lasting and gave a natural looking glow without any obvious glitter. The only problem was the colours. I am so very pale and cool-toned that two of the three powders were so orange for my skin that they gave it a dull, muddy effect. I was so disappointed and hoped that it was just an issue with my application, so I tried them out four more days in a row using different brushes each time, applying different amounts, and putting the powders in different places on my face, but the results were always the same. I’m sad to admit that I had to return this palette. The only other product that I have returned to Sephora was the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette, and that was because the colours in it just didn’t work for me either. Though I was disappointed to give up the Ambient Lighting powders, I used the money that I saved from returning this palette to purchase the Too Faced Papa Don’t Peach Blush. Look out for a separate post on it in the near future.
The last item is another favourite of mine. I purchased my first tube of the Rosebud Perfume Co. Rosebud Salve about a year ago, and was in need of a new one. A little really does go a long way since one tube lasted me an entire year and I use it every day. This product is a staple in my nighttime skin care routine. I always put a generous layer of it on my lips before bed and I never wake up in the morning to dry lips. I would say that the texture is similar to Vaseline but less greasy. It has a pleasant, light rose scent and a slight pink tint. Although I mostly use it on my lips, I have used it on my cuticles while travelling. The Sephora site says that it also calms and heals irritation, soothes minor burns, heals cuts, and minimizes diaper rash. I highly recommend this product for anyone looking for a good overnight lip balm or an all-purpose skincare product for travelling.
Have you tried any of the products that I purchased? How did they work for you? Do you have a favourite clump-free mascara?
