Sothys Paris Désert Chic Make-Up Collection Review (Spring/Summer 2017)

Sothys Paris Spring and Summer 2017 Desert Chic Collection Review

The Sothys Paris Spring/Summer 2017 Désert Chic Make-Up Collection features warm colours inspired by the desert for a sun-kissed look.

Sothys, an avant-garde beauty expert, offers a line of innovative skin and body care, as well as a makeup line with limited-edition collections inspired by the seasons. I was lucky enough to test out three products from the Désert Chic Collection that illuminate the complexion with shades of sand, coral, and khaki.

All items feature sleek black casing with the Sothys symbol which is of an Egyptian goddess named Sothys who dedicated herself to women in order to preserve their beauty and happiness.

The Ombre Sothys Matte Eyeshadow in 50 Safari* is a khaki grey shade that reveals slight brown undertones when applied to the skin. Though some matte shadows can be chalky, powdery, or patchy, this one is very soft and buttery. It’s also buildable for an easy, even application and can be applied wet or dry for a softer or more intense look. What I especially love about this shadow is that it can be used on its own to create a few different effects. It’s great as an all over lid colour applied lightly for day or smoked out for a sultry night look. It’s also pigmented enough to use as an eyeliner. While I love the soft, shimmery shadows from Sothys’ Fall/Winter Baroque Collection, the matte formula of 50 Safari is very refreshing for spring and summer. In addition to this eye product, the Désert Chic Collection includes a deep khaki Calligraphy Eyeliner and a champagne gold Eyeshadow Pencil.

For lips, this collection includes liquid lipsticks in shades of coral. I tried the Lip Lacquer in 10 Tangerine*, a bright peachy-pink shade that really brightens the complexion. I love how it adds a bit of glow to my pale skin, even when it’s the only makeup product on my face. It also has a delicious vanilla scent that reminds me of ice cream. The formula is a fusion of gloss and lipstick that provides both shine and intense colour. It also includes a combination of waxes and oils that leave the lips feeling hydrated and supple without being sticky or drying. I just can’t get enough of this colour and look forward to wearing it until fall. The other lip lacquer shade in this collection is 20 Sanguine, a blood orange colour.

Here’s a closer look at the colour. The little window on one side of the tube is very helpful for identifying shades when you have more than one.

The applicator is in a figure 8 shape to provide perfect coverage.

The last item I tried from the collection is the Vernis Sothys Nail Lacquer in 309 Sable Corail*, a summery coral shade. It’s very similar in colour to the Tangerine Lip Lacquer but with a bit more pink. I have tried many different nail polishes over the years and can confidently say that this one has one of the smoothest, most pigmented formulas yet. One coat provides sufficient coverage that dries quickly to a glossy finish. It also includes ingredients such as biotin and keratin to care for the nails.

The flat brush makes application quick and easy.

I’m not wearing a top coat in the photo below and my nails still look super glossy. This coral shade is so flattering and will look great against many different skin tones. I can see it becoming my go-to pedicure polish for summer too.

Overall, the Sothys Paris Spring/Summer 2017 Désert Chic Make-Up Collection features bold, sun-kissed shades for an illuminated look to complement the adventurous side of summer. As someone with pale, cool-toned skin, I rarely come across a makeup collection with multiple products that flatter my complexion; however, this entire collection is perfect for me and I think it will work with many different skin tones. Although the colours are bright and bold, they are buildable and can be applied at different intensities to fit the occasion or time of day. While I love all the products that I tried, the lip lacquer and nail polish are my favourites since I just can’t get enough of that warm coral. It makes me want to put on a spring dress and walk on the beach. All products in the collection range from C$18.50-$59.95, so they are in the appropriate price range for a high-end brand and are great options if you are looking to splurge on unique yet versatile beauty items with on-trend colours for the seasons ahead.
