Review: Sothys Paris Les Jardins Sothys Make-Up Collection (Spring/Summer 2018)

Sothys Paris Spring Summer 2018 Makeup Collection Review Les Jardin Sothys 1

The Sothys Paris Spring/Summer 2018 Les Jardins Sothys Make-Up Collection draws inspiration from the heart of nature for a wild and radiant beauty look.

Sothys, an avant-garde beauty expert, offers a line of innovative skin and body care, as well as a makeup line with limited-edition collections inspired by the seasons. The Les Jardins Sothys collection launches today (March 5), and features fresh, floral colours such as sunny yellow, vibrant orange, radiant red, garden green, and midnight blue.

I can’t get over how beautiful the shades are in the Ombre Sothys Eye Quartet Palette*. The mix of fiery citrus colours and chic jewel tones makes the four iridescent shades ideal for creating both natural daytime and sophisticated evening looks. My favourite shade is the beautiful midnight blue. I love using it wet as a liner to make my brown eyes pop. It’s a nice alternative to black since it’s less harsh and makes the whites of my eyes look extra bright. The gold is another one of my go-to shades in this quad. It’s the perfect all-over lid colour that will look great on any skin tone. I like to use it on its own or pair it with the orange for a sunny effect during the day and then add a sweep the brown shadow on the outer corners of my eyes for some depth in the evening. All shadows in this palette are made with finely milled pigments for a creamy texture. They are blendable, buildable, and luxurious. If you are interested in trying items from this collection, the eye quad is definitely one to consider.

The other eye product in the collection is the Calligraphy Eyeliner*. I often wear shadow as liner since some eyeliner pencils tug on my sensitive eyelids during application, but the super soft felt tip on this liner is very comfortable to use. It’s flexible yet easy to control and can create a thin or thick line depending on how much pressure is applied. The shade is a beautiful matte brown-grey that adds chic definition to the eyes without looking too harsh for the warmer months when makeup is more natural and fresh. As for the formula, it is very pigmented and completely smudge proof once it sets. I like to use it with the gold and orange shades from the eyeshadow quad for a polished daytime look or wear it alone on those “no-makeup” days when I want my eyes to look naturally pretty and defined. If you haven’t had much luck with traditional eyeliners or love using innovative products, this liner is a must-try.

The last item that I tried from this collection is the Vernis Sothys Nail Lacquer in Rouge Roseraie* I’m always impressed with nail polish from Sothys. The formula is so rich, naturally glossy (I’m not wearing a top coat in the photo above!), and pigmented. It’s meant to deliver a plumping effect for reshaped nails and contains vitamins B5, C, and E and sweet almond oil to protect and nourish the nails. My nails are currently peeling and rough from too many gel polish manicures, but the damage is hardly visible in my swatch photo because of how well this polish fills in imperfections for a smooth finish. The shade in this collection is a luminous springtime red that works well with my pale skin tone. Some reds can be too harsh on me, but this one is perfect and will be one of my go-to colours for spring and summer. I’m always eager to see which shade Sothys will release with their next seasonal collection, and this one is just what I need to get me in the spring mood.

Overall, this collection truly succeeds at capturing the vibrant shades of nature that bloom during spring and summer. I’m very happy to see another eyeshadow quad from Sothys since I still can’t get enough of the one from their Fall/Winter 2016 Baroque Collection. The quads are a great way to expand your shadow collection without purchasing a bunch of individual colours. I also really appreciate how wearable the eyeliner and polish are and how all items in the collection are so easy to apply thanks to the research and innovation that goes into  Sothys products. In addition to the products featured in this post, the Les Jardins Sothys Collection also includes a bronzing powder duo with a radiant apricot blush that I must get my hands on before spring, a satin-finish lipstick in a shade that matches the nail colour, and a velvet-effect lipstick in an intense orange colour. Products in the Les Jardins Sothys collection range from C$19-C$68.50.
