Review: Sigma Beauty SigMagic Brushampoo

Sigma Sigmagic Brushampoo Review 2

This month, I had the exciting opportunity to try out an innovative product from Sigma Beauty, the SigMagic Brushampoo*.

Before I tell you my thoughts on the product, I want to let you in on a little secret: I don’t deep clean my brushes nearly enough, and by nearly enough I mean almost never. With the brush cleansers that I’ve used in the past, it took quite a while to remove all colour from the brushes, the brushes were slow to dry, and they always felt like they were left with a residue no matter how long I rinsed them. So, I gave up on deep cleansing and resorted to a quick spot-cleaning routine that left me with dull, partially-clean brushes that were not performing to their full potential.

Luckily, I found a solution for my brush-cleaning issues the day that I received my bottle of Brushampoo.

The product arrived in this neatly-packaged box that features a refreshing leaf pattern as well as a magnetic closure to prevent it from opening on its own.

Inside, the sleek bottle of brush cleanser rests amid a beachy background that promotes feelings of warmth and adventure.

The bottle itself is sleek and professional-looking with its white base, holographic writing, and mirrored cap.

The packaging includes a pump applicator that prevents spills and product overuse. I found that one pump was more than enough for each brush. The product comes out as a light liquid with a slightly foamy texture. I was surprised by the consistency considering that the formula is 100% natural, is free of fragrance, parabens, and sulfates, and contains ethically sourced ingredients like virgin coconut and palm oil. It’s not sticky or heavy and works into a rich lather that’s easy to rinse away along with all traces of makeup. It’s also antimicrobial which is perfect for someone like me who has a serious germ phobia. Not to mention, germ free brushes promote healthier skin since bacteria can cause blemishes and skin irritation.

As you can see from my before picture above, I tested this product with some very dirty brushes that had not received a deep cleaning in months. I used a range of different brush sizes and styles to see if the product would perform equally well on all of them. The brushes I washed include the F50 Duo Fibre Brush, F40 Large Angled Contoured Brush, E55 Eye Shading Bush, and E65 Small Angle Brush.

I began with the larger brushes first since I expected them to take longer to wash. I dampened them with a bit of water and then squeezed one pump of product directly onto the brushes. Next, I swirled them into the palm of my hand to create a lather (a Brush Cleansing Glove would work as well). Within seconds, the brushes were sudsy and free of colour, and I hadn’t even rinsed yet! The rinsing process was quick and left the brushes feeling soft, clean, residue-free. I repeated this process with the eye brushes and received equally positive results. Since the brushes rinsed clean so quickly and did not require minutes under a running tap, they held less water and were able to dry much faster than brushes washed with other cleansers.

This is how the brushes looked an hour after washing—completely clean, shiny, and almost dry. Within just a few minutes of testing out this cleanser, I discovered that brush cleansing does not need to be a daunting or time-consuming task. It can be a rewarding experience that produces clean, germ-free brushes that look and feel brand new.

Overall, I’m very impressed with the SigMagic Brushampoo. From what I have observed, it performs to its full potential and has the added bonus of being 100% natural. It’s also very affordable at $15 for 150ml. I think it would be a great stocking stuffer for the holiday season or a nice gift for bridesmaids, makeup-lovers, and those who need a quick and easy solution for dirty brushes.
