NOTD: Essie Take Me To Thread (Gel Couture)

Essie Gel Couture Take Me To Thread Review

Here’s another polish from my Essie Gel Couture Haul. Aside from pastel pink, my favourite nail polish colours are purple and grey. If I can find a shade that’s a combination of the two, I’m eager to give it a try; however, many of these grey-purple polishes are much too brown or warm-toned for my skin. Before placing my polish order, I looked at quite a few swatches and had high hopes for Take Me To Thread since it looked like the perfect shade of greyish purple for cool-toned skin.

Essie describes Take Me To Thread as a plush taupe. While it looks like a brown-based purple in the photo above, it's less warm in natural light. It does apply a shade darker than it appears in the bottle, but I can’t detect any brown tones in it when it’s on my nails. This colour a true grey-purple that’s very chic and wearable.

Like Spool Me Over, the first Gel Couture shade that I reviewed, the formula of Take Me To Thread is very easy to work with. It applies smoothly without any streaking and needs only 60 seconds to dry between coats. With this shade, two coats are more than enough to achieve opacity, but I’m wearing three in the photo above plus the Gel Couture top coat. The top coat is necessary for achieving the long-lasting effect of the gel polish and adds glassy shine since Take Me To Thread does not dry to a particularly shiny finish on its own.

I wore this polish for nine days before I noticed chipping at the ends of my nails on my dominant hand. On day ten, I removed it with ease using a regular polish remover.

Overall, I think that the Gel Couture line from Essie is worth trying if you want a long-wearing polish but don’t like the high costs, UV light curing, or acetone removal of gel manicures from a salon. These polishes are quick and easy to apply and remove, and they last much longer than regular nail polish. As for Take Me To Thread, it’s a great colour for those who are looking for a grey-purple shade that does’t look brown. I know I will be using it often.

  2. I really love that color. This may be the best polish for me to try during the spring/ summer months as I am extra hard on my nails with gardening.

    1. It's definitely worth a try if you haven't had the best luck with regular nail polish :). I'm hard on my nails too and have been very happy with this line of polishes.
