Review: Sigma Beauty Highlight Expert Brush Set

Sigma Beauty Highlight Expert Brush Set Review 2

I have a confession to make: I love makeup brushes, especially when they come in sets for performing specific beauty tasks. Over the years, I have collected quite a few brushes and brush kits, mainly from Sigma Beauty. If you are not familiar with Sigma, it’s a beauty brand that specializes in innovative makeup brushes, brush care, and cosmetics.

In 2016, I had the pleasure of reviewing the Nightlife By Camila Coelho Brush Set with its beautiful glitter handles inspired by the city lights from New York to Rio de Janeiro, and today, I’m sharing my thoughts on the Highlight Expert Brush Set*, which includes three uniquely engineered brushes designed to highlight the face. All three tools in this set work together to apply highlighter with the perfect strobe on high-points of the face from cheekbones to chin.

Read on to learn more about these must-have brushes for achieving highlight perfection.

First, the brushes come in this sleek triangular box that stands up well on my vanity.

All three brushes are made with Sigma exclusive, long-lasting synthetic fibres. I love how Sigma bristles always look so sleek and shiny and don’t lose their lustre over time. After many uses, they are easily restored to their original state with a gentle cleansing. The brushes in this set also include sturdy ferules in a silver tone, sleek black handles, and holographic writing to indicate brush name and number.

F03 High Cheekbone Highlighter - This fluffy but firm brush is bevelled to perfectly blend cream or powder highlighting products on the cheekbones and high planes of the face. I especially love using this brush under my brow bone, on my cupid’s bow, and down the centre of my nose. It provides a diffused, blended look that looks natural and polished. On days when I want a very natural makeup look, I used this brush to highlight a few areas on my face and then sweep any remaining highlighter on my lids, curl my lashes, swirl on blush, and finish with a lip stain. It’s a quick and easy way to look more awake and put together without spending more than three minutes on your makeup.

F56 Accentuate Highlighter - When I first opened this kit, I was immediately drawn to this brush because it’s very unique from the others in my collection with its densely curved shape made to fit on top of the cheekbone. This innovative brush design allows me to get a very blended, natural effect since the bristles mould to the shape of my cheekbone to buff the product in, rather than sweep it on top. I find that this works especially well with cream products since they can be hard to blend to a seamless, natural finish with fingers or flat-topped bushes.

F37 Spotlight Duster - This brush provides an airy application of powder products to the high planes of the face with its tapered design and extremely soft SigmaTech fibres. While I love cream products, powders are my highlighting formula of choice, so I have been getting a lot of use out of this brush. It’s great for adding a soft highlight to the forehead, nose, chin, and temples. It applies the product so smoothly that only minimal blending is necessary. I also can’t get over just how soft the bristles are.

This brush kit pairs well with the Loose Shimmers and Glitters from Sigma (click HERE to see my review of all five). I have been using the F56 daily to apply Ravishing on my cheekbones and love the healthy, flushed effect that I can achieve by buffing a bit of Felicity on my cheekbones with the F37. I also like to apply Ethereal or Bewitch on my brow bone, sweep a bit of Ravishing on my lid, and swipe Zeal in my crease with the F03.

Overall, I’m very impressed with the Sigma Highlight Expert Brush Set. With only three brushes, it provides the ultimate tool kit for those who love to highlight with cream or powder products on any area of the face. As someone who has multiple brush sets from Sigma, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this set did not include duplicates for brushes I have from other kits. If you love collecting brushes, are looking for some effective tools to apply highlighters, or just want to try new and innovative products, this set may be just what you’re looking for.

What are your thoughts on this brush set? Which brush is your favourite for highlighting?
