NOTD: Julep Jennye

Julep Jennye Swatch and Review

One of my blogging goals for 2018 is to create more Nail Art and NOTD (Nail of the Day) posts. After all, I started Writing Beauty back in 2011 because of my passion for nails. Although I have downsized my polish collection  over the years and have started getting salon gel manicures when life gets busy, nail polish will always be my first beauty love.

Today I want to share my thoughts on one of my favourite polish purchases from 2017: Julep Jennye.
I received this polish in my May 2017 Julep Maven Customized Box. As I was browsing through the site, this polish immediately caught my attention because it reminded me of a periwinkle crayon that was my favourite colouring tool when I was a child.

Julep describes this shade as a powder blue sheer holographic. In person, it looks more grey-purple than a true blue, and I would not consider it sheer since it looks opaque with two coats. The iridescent holographic flecks are a beautifully unexpected touch to this cream finish polish. I like how they are fairly subtle except for in direct light or outdoors when they transform into a prismatic shimmer that reminds me of snowflakes in the sun. This effect allows the polish to maintain its uniqueness without being too flashy for work. Like all Julep polishes, Jennye is 5-free and vegan friendly.

My only concern with Jennye is the formula. Julep polishes are normally thick, but this one seems extra thick and almost gel-like in consistency. I usually apply three thin coats of polish when I do my manicures, but the first coat of this was very patchy and uneven, so I applied a thick second coat and skipped the third coat. The result was a smooth, glossy finish that looked flawless but required more drying time. Despite this issue with the formula, I love the colour so much that I won’t hesitate to use this polish again. I will just be sure to be generous during application and give the polish ample time to dry.

Overall, if you are looking for something new to add to your collection that is unlike polishes you already have but won’t push you too far out of your comfort zone, I highly recommend Jennye.

Which polishes are you loving in 2018?
