March 2017 Bakers Krate

March 2017 Baker s Krate 1

There’s no better way to start the weekend than with something sweet! The dessert lover in me has been eager to share this post with you since the March 2017 Baker’s Krate* arrived in my mailbox.

If you are unfamiliar with Bakers Krate, it’s a subscription box featuring hand-crafted gourmet baked goods produced by Canadian dessert experts. The Bakers Krate team searches for Canada’s best desserts to satisfy your sweet tooth so that you can enjoy local tastes and delicacies in the comfort of your own home. Each monthly box contains at least six fresh baked goods such as cake pops, pie jars, cookies, dessert squares, and more made by Canadian artisans. Each item in the box is packaged well to guarantee freshness.

Subscriptions are $19.99 per month plus $9.99 shipping across Canada. You can save a bit each month by signing up for a three month or six month plan, and you will receive the current month’s box if you sign up before the 20th of the month. There are options to skip a month and cancel at any time. You can also send Bakers Krate as a gift. I have done this a few times for friends who are living away from home for work or school, and they always love receiving a surprise box of delicious gourmet treats.

For the month of March, Bakers Krate sent its subscribers a St. Patrick’s Day-themed box that features sweet sprinkles of green, buttery crumbles of gold, and a little chocolate for extra luck.

Read on for my review of this month’s decadent desserts.

Review: Joa Bath & Body Products

Joa Bath Body Review 1

As 2016 comes to an end, I’m excited to share my thoughts on a delightful Canadian body care company that I was introduced to this year.

Joa Bath & Body is a line of body care products that are not only luxurious but also good for sensitive skin. It all started when Cindy, the company’s owner set out to create soap that wouldn’t irritate her children’s sensitive skin. Family and friends became interested in her soap and soon a company was born. Now Joa creates a range of natural, quality products with simple ingredients that include soaps, hand and body moisturizers, bath bombs, body scrubs, and lip balms.

As someone who has suffered from the effects of sensitive skin from childhood, I couldn’t wait to try out Cindy’s products to see if they would work for me. Read on for my experiences with a soap, a body scrub, and a bath bomb from Joa.

June 2015 Beauty Box Five

June 2015 Beauty Box Five 3
The June 2015 Beauty Box Five* features products to help us look our best while travelling. If you are unfamiliar with Beauty Box Five, it is a subscription service that sends its members five cosmetic samples each month. The service is available to those in Canada and the USA, and subscriptions start at $12 per month. The best part is that shipping is free! The brands that Beauty Box Five works with are very impressive (see them all HERE).
Now let’s talk about the June items...
June 2015 Beauty Box Five 1
1. LOL Rotational Eye Shadow | Retail: $3 - This palette, created by a French and Australian cosmetics brand, includes six pretty shadows. I received a palette with shadows of green and gold called Splash That Cash. While it is very pretty, I don’t think these shades will be very flattering on me, so I will pass it on to someone else.
2. Nails Inc. Nail Polish | Retail: $9.50 for 0.33 oz - This nail polish is my favourite item in this month’s box since I have been wanting to try this UK brand for a while. I received the shade Bruton Street which is a pretty mauve pink.
3. Urban Decay Perversion Mascara | Retail: $22 for 0.4 oz - This pigmented mascara volumizes lashes with its creamy formula. I’m excited to try my first Urban Decay mascara.
June 2015 Beauty Box Five 2
4. Simple Skincare Micellar Cleansing Water | Retail: $7.99 for 7 oz - This on-the-go hydrator is perfect for travelling because it does not require a sink, it is no-rinse, and it hydrates skin. I am a bit disappointed by how small this sample is. I don’t think there is enough product in here for me to truly evaluate if I like this product or not.
5. Herbal Essences Body Wash | Retail: $2.49 for 11.1 oz - This travel-size bottle of body wash has an amazing citrus scent. I have always loved Herbal Essences hair products because of their delicious scents, so I’m looking forward to trying a body wash from this brand.
Overall, I’m very happy with the mascara, nail polish, and body wash in this month’s box. I did find the eyeshadow palette and cleansing water to be less impressive. I’m looking forward to next month’s box and can’t wait to see what Beauty Box Five has in store for July.

June 2015 Birchbox

June 2015 Birchbox 1
June 2015 Birchbox 3

This month’s Birchbox encompasses the excitement of summer with its adventure theme. This is the second month in a row that the box has had a custom design (check out the May box HERE) which is a nice surprise.

The first four items focus on skin and hair.

I love the scent of the Naobay Oxygenating Cream Moisturizer. It smells like a decadent lemon dessert. This product hydrates the skin with avocado and olive oils and 98% natural ingredients. It can be used on the face as a makeup base as well, but I plan to use it on my hands.

The product in this month’s box that I find most exciting is the Number 4 Clarifying Shampoo because it deeply cleanses hair without stripping moisture or colour. I think it’s important to use a good clarifying shampoo at least once a month to rejuvenate hair.

Also for hair is the PARLOR by Jeff Chastain Moisturizing Sea Salt Spray. This product provides soft, beachy waves without drying out the hair. I’m looking forward to seeing what this product can do for my naturally straight hair.

The last hair item is a bonus gift included in this month’s box. This Emi-Jay Hair Tie is cute and also part of a good cause since 20% of this company's profits are donated to charity.

June 2015 Birchbox 2

The last two items are for the eyes.

First, The Skyn Iecland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels cool, hydrate, and refresh stressed skin under the eyes. I think these would be a nice treat for the eyes after a hot summer day.

To add a bit of colour, the Coastal Scents Revealed 3 Eyeshadow Quad features a versatile range of satiny-smooth shadows. I was a bit disappointed with this product because I know that these colours would look horrible with my colouring and would make my eyes look tired and irritated. I will pass them on to someone else.

June 2015 Birchbox 4

Overall, while I am very happy with some of the items that I received, I found this month’s box to be less exciting than the April and May boxes. Hopefully the July box will be more impressive and will help me decide whether or not I should continue my subscription.

June 2015 Glossybox

June 2015 glossybox 1

With summer less than a week away, the June Glossybox* arrived at the perfect time. The box, inspired by the colourful streets of Miami, features products to create lush lashes, bold nails, and hydrated skin for sunny days and late nights.

Aside from wearing sunscreen (everyday!) to protect skin from harmful rays, it’s important to replenish moisture after exposure to sun, chlorine, salt water, wind, etc. My favourite product for moisturizing and treating skin in the summer is aloe vera, which is why I’m so excited that Glossybox included two aloe products in this month’s box. The first is Etre Belle Cosmetics Aloe Vera Ultra Moisturizing Gel, an oil-free hydrator with liposomes to hydrate, improve elasticity, and prime skin. Aloe also helps cure sunburn, frostbite, and bruises.

Another skincare product is the The Aloe Source Luminosity Masque, a luxurious gel masque that exfoliates and soothes skin to restore youth and radiance with ingredients such as pineapple extract, papaya extract, aloe vera, and willow herb extract.

June 2015 Glossybox 2

As for beauty items, this month’s box includes mini, yet generous sized products that enhance lashes as nails. Too Faced Cosmetics Better than Sex Mascara volumizes and lifts lashes with its hourglass-shaped brush. The collagen-fueler formula is buildable for a customized effect. Based on the beautiful lashes pictured on the box, I can’t wait to try this mascara.

Aside from defined lashes, a summer look wouldn’t be complete without glowy skin. The Doucce Blush Brush in this month’s box seamlessly applies powder blush and bronzer with its dome-shaped head and natural hair fibers. I really like the size of the brush since it’s perfect for travel and quick touch-ups on the go.

The last item of the month is an Orly Nail Lacquer in the shade Oh Cabana Boy. Not only is it the perfect shade of hot pink for summer, this polish is also free of DBP, formaldehyde, and toluene. I can’t wait to paint my toes with this pink and slip on some colourful sandals.

June 2015 Glossybox 3

Overall, I really love the June 2015 Glossybox. It may even be my favourite box so far! I will use every single product sent this month and I really like how all the items are summer-friendly. Also, the value of the box is very high this month since the aloe vera gel and brush are full size and the other three products are deluxe samples.

I’m looking forward to seeing what Glossybox has in store for July!

May 2015 Birchbox

May 2015 Birchbox 2
May 2015 Birchbox 4

Last month, I made my first Birchbox post (see what I received in the April box HERE). I really enjoyed the box that I received and decided to continue subscribing for a few more months.

Each monthly Birchbox contains five samples from a range of categories such as skincare, haircare, fragrance, lifestyle, etc. You can also fill out a beauty profile so that the company can get to know your beauty preferences. Subscriptions cost $10 per month plus $4.95 shipping.

The May 2015 box is extra special because it was curated by Emily Schuman from Cupcakes and Cashmere. The theme of the box is Elevate Everyday, which focuses on simple products that can have a profound impact on our everyday experiences and transform our moods. The outside of the box is very uplifting with its orange and gold design, and the products are very interesting and energizing.

The first three products really caught my attention with their sleek packaging. The Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream is an old favourite of mine. I have used this product in the past and loved how hydrating its shea butter formula is.

Also for a luxurious shower is Not Soap, Radio, The Stuff that Cupid Dips His Arrows in Body Wash, a rich cleanser with ginseng that’s meant to increase attraction. I love trying new body washes and can’t wait to use this one.

The sleek white tube is The Expressionist Bio Extreme Mascara from W3LL PEOPLE. This all-natural, pro-grade mascara lifts and lengthens lashes without chemicals or dyes. I’m really looking forward to trying this since I have a difficult time finding mascaras that do not irritate my sensitive eyes.

May 2015 Birchbox 1

The last two items are for the face and lips. Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Repair Moisturizer is organic and uses fruit stem cells to firm and smooth fine lines and wrinkles. I think my mom would love this product, so I will pass it on to her.

Yes, you read the tube correctly; the final product, by Dr. Lipp, is called Original Nipple Balm for Lips. While the name seems a bit strange, it’s understandable since this product was originally made for nursing moms. It can also be used on parched lips, cuticles, and elbows as needed. I will definitely be trying this on my dry hands, cuticles, knees, and elbows.

May 2015 Birchbox 3

Overall, I am quite impressed with this month’s box and feel as though my beauty preferences were considered (for the most part) when my products were selected. Like I mentioned last month, I’m still not sure how long I will continue with my subscription but will be trying it out for a few more months. It’s affordable and I have received some useful items so far. I look forward to seeing what I will receive in months to come.

May 2015 Beauty Box Five

The May 2015 Beauty Box Five* features products to to improve our complexions, provide quick makeup fixes, and moisturize. If you are unfamiliar with Beauty Box Five, it is a subscription service that sends its members five cosmetic samples each month. The service is available to those in Canada and the USA, and subscriptions start at $12 per month. The best part is that shipping is free! The brands that Beauty Box Five works with are also very impressive (see them all HERE).

Now let’s talk about the May items...

1. Essenza Luxury Hand Soap | Retail: $4.99 for 16.9 oz - This luxurious hand soap cleanses, moisturizes, and includes pure essential oils. It also has an invigorating scent. I think this sample would be great for travelling since I would much rather use a liquid hand soap than one of those little bars of soap given in hotels.

2. Styli-Style Blush/Highlighter Stick | Retail: 5.99 for 0.21 oz - I received this cheek stick in the shade Champagne. It looks like it will be a beautiful highlighter but won’t give enough colour to work as a blush.

3. Dermalogica Active Moist | Retail: $60 for 3.4 oz - This oil free moisturizer evens out skin texture with silk amino acids. This sounds like a great product for those warmer months when we want moisture without all the extra shine.

4. Coastal Scents Classic/Synthetic Brush | Retail: $1.95-2.49 - I love how this eyeshadow brush is perfect for patting colour on the lid for an easy everyday look.

5. Bio Swiss Stainless Steel Mini Tweezer | Retail: $4.99 - I can’t think of how many times I was out and wished that I had a pair of tweezers. This product is perfect for on-the-go touch ups and it’s tiny enough to fit in a purse or pocket.

Overall, I’m very happy with this month’s Beauty Box Five. Although the majority of the brands do not fit into the luxury category, the selection of products is very impressive. I’m looking forward to next month’s box and can’t wait to see what Beauty Box Five has in store for June.

April 2015 Birchbox

April 2015 Birchbox 1
I thought it was about time that I tried the Canadian version of Birchbox. Years ago when Birchbox started offering subscriptions in the USA only, I was so disappointed that I could not subscribe. Now the company also ships to the UK, France, Spain, Canada, and Belgium.

Each monthly box contains five samples from a range of categories such as skincare, haircare, fragrance, lifestyle, etc. You can also fill out a beauty profile so that the company can get to know your beauty preferences. Subscriptions cost $10 per month plus $4.95 shipping.

The April 2015 box features products to celebrate the gorgeous season of spring. As you can see from the photo above, both the box and product packaging include colourful pops of pink and mint. Just the colours alone made me very excited to learn more about the products.

The first two items are for hair and skin. 12 Benefits Instant Healthy Hair Treatment detangles, hydrates, protects, and repairs damaged hair. I have been using this product for about a week before blow drying and I’m really enjoying it. It leaves my hair soft and shiny without weighing it down. I prefer to spray it on my hands first and then apply it to my hair because it is a very thick spray that collects in just one spot when applied directly from the bottle.

For skin recovering from the dry winter months, Perlier White Almond Revitalizing Body Butter improves tone and elasticity. I was very happy to receive this product as I love trying new body moisturizers, especially during shorts weather. It smells nice and is very hydrating.
April 2015 Birchbox 4
The next item, the beautyblender double is something that I have been wanting to try for years. It’s a sponge that can be dampened and used to apply makeup with a smooth, natural finish. While most people use it for foundation, I can’t wait to use it to apply cream blush. It comes with a solid blendercleanser to keep it clean, and this month’s box includes a liquid blendercleanser as well. April 2015 Birchbox 3
The last two items came in a little mint coloured box. The first item is a sample of Harvey Prince Hello Fragrance which boasts citrus and floral notes. While the packaging is very cute and the scent is energizing, florals are not my favourite so I will pas this on to someone else.

The other item in the mint box is a Jelly Pong Pong GLOW GETTER Highlighter packaged in a cute nail polish-style bottle. I love highlighters and can’t wait to try this pretty beige one.
April 2015 Birchbox 2
Overall, I’m very impressed with my first Canadian Birchbox. At $10 a month, it is more affordable than some of the other boxes are out there, and the products sent (at least in this first box) are of great value—the beautyblender alone is worth $35! I feel as though it was $10 well spent since I know that I will use almost all the products. I look forward to seeing what I will receive in months to come.

2. Eslor Introductory Collection - Second Edition - I received an Eslor sample kit in the June 2014 Box. It featured products to calm and soothe skin. The sample kit that was sent this month includes a peeling gel, a lifting mask, a cleanser, and a day cream. Full size versions of these samples range in price from $28-$85.
March 2015 Beauty Box Five 3

5. Styli-Style Line & Seal Twist Mechanical Eye Liner | Retail: $3.99 - This twist-up eyeliner is so convenient that it doesn’t require a sharpener. I received the shade Raisin which I think would pair well with green eyes.
Overall, I think this month’s box includes a nice assortment of products. All three makeup items are full size and the skincare items are from higher end brands. The makeup items are in universally flattering shades that will complement many different skin tones. I’m looking forward to next month’s box and can’t wait to see what Beauty Box Five has in store for April.

3. Absolute New York Absolute Love Lip Balm | Retail: $5 - This subtly tinted balm has a delicious scent, cute packaging, and moisturizing ingredients. It’s a very pretty shade of pink (it looks just like the colour on the tin) that will add the perfect glow to lips.
February 2015 Beauty Box Five 3
4. Revlon Colorstay Nail Enamel | Retail: $3.99 - This polish looks opaque on the nails with just one coat, and it’s long lasting. I received the shade Stormy Night which is a pretty greyish purple colour with beige undertones.

This month, Beauty Box Five also sent a $20 yourMinerals gift card that can be used towards the purchase of this mineral makeup company’s all-natural shadows, foundations, blushes, and brushes.
Overall, I’m impressed with the February 2015 box from Beauty Box Five. Aside from the skincare sample, all items in the box were full size and, along with the gift card, had a combined value of approximately $55. I enjoyed the selection of colours and will be adding some of these items to my spring makeup bag, especially that pretty lip balm. I’m looking forward to next month’s box and can’t wait to see what Beauty Box Five has in store for March.

Giveaway + Review: February 2015 Healthy Surprise Box

February 2015 Healthy Surprise Box 1

For many of us, the most difficult aspect of eating healthy is snack time. Sometimes we just want something sweet or salty! While a bag of greasy potato chips or a box of sticky candy is often easy to grab for a quick snack, having healthier snacks on hand can prevent us from consuming foods that are bad for us out of convenience.

Sometimes it seems hard to keep healthy snacks on hand, but it doesn’t have to be. The snackologists at Healthy Surprise make it fun and easy to eat healthy snacks by delivering customers a box every month filled with full-size snacks that are delicious, gluten free, soy free, corn free, wheat free, vegan, and natural.

Healthy Surprise offers many different options including the Classic Box, the Big Box, and the Paleo Box. All boxes can be purchased for yourself in monthly, every other month, or quarterly subscriptions, or they can be sent as gifts.  There’s also a Chocolate Box that can be sent as a gift (photos below). I really like the idea of the gift boxes. Instead of sending a loved one a box of chocolates made from chemical ingredients and refined sugars, I could send them a box of healthy treats that they could eat throughout the month. The company ships worldwide, so you can order a box wherever you live or even send a gift to a friend on the other side of the world. You can get $10 off your first month by using the code HSBAF10. You will also receive a free $25 gift card in the first box of every new subscription and gift. Boxes also include brochures with recipes and health facts.

I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to try the February 2015 Healthy Surprise Classic Box*. As you can see from the photo above, I received a lot of healthy snacks this month. Read on to learn more about what I received and to have the chance to enter a GIVEAWAY to win your own Healthy Surprise Classic Box

February 2015 Healthy Surprise Box

The first few items are for those snack cravings that demand something crunchy and salty. As a bonus, they all contain one gram or less of sugar per serving.

1. Beanitos Hot Chili Lime Puffs - These bean puffs are free of corn, trans fats, preservatives, gluten, MSG, and cholesterol. They are kosher, vegan, low glycemic, and high in fibre. One bag is only 80 calories. This is the perfect snack to replace unhealthy cheese puffs. They’re very crunchy and have a lot of flavour.

2. Sensible Portions Sea Salt Garden Veggie Chips - These chips contain 30% less fat than regular potato chips and are free of artificial colours and flavours, preservatives, trans fat, and cholesterol. They are non-GMO, kosher, and vegan. One bag of these crunchy chips is only 130 calories. Unlike potato chips, these veggie chips are very light and non-greasy. I had them as an afternoon snack along with a banana.

February 2015 Healthy Surprise Box 2

3 and 4. Laiki Black Rice Crackers and Red Rice Crackers - These crackers contain only three ingredients: rice, sustainably farmed palm oil, and sea salt. As a result, they are naturally gluten-free, vegan, and allergen friendly. One bag contains only 100 calories. I ate mine with a bowl of soup and sliced vegetables for lunch. Despite containing only a few ingredients, they are very flavourful.

5. Beanfields Salt N’ Pepper Bean & Rice Chips - These chips, made from black and navy beans and long grain rice, contain 29% less fat and twice the fibre and protein as most tortilla chips. The are free of GMOs, gluten, corn, peanuts, seeds and dairy. For 1 oz of chips there’s only 140 calories. These chips are flavourful and delicious with homemade salsa.

February 2015 Healthy Surprise Box 3

These next few items are perfect for satisfying a sweet tooth while avoiding refined sugar.

6. Freeze Dried Strawberry Banana Crunchies - The only ingredients in this snack are strawberries and bananas. These’s no preservatives, gluten, GMOs, or added sugar. There’s one fruit serving per pack and only 35 calories. As someone who loves fruit, I really enjoyed this snack. It’s much easier to carry in your purse than a banana and a handful of strawberries.

7. Sea’s Gift Sweet Seaweed Snack - These seaweed snacks are rich in vitamins and minerals, vegan, gluten free, and low in calories (35 per package). Although they are meant to taste sweet, they contain less than 1 gram of sugar. They are very crunchy and light, yet satisfying.

8. Plum Organic Mash Ups Apple Sauce + Fruits & Veggies (Blueberry Blitz) - This organic applesauce is a good source of fibre and vitamin A and an excellent source of Vitamin C. It contains no added sugar and has 50 calories per pouch. It’s easy to eat on the go and is in BPA-free packaging. This product is a great substitute for sugary, flavoured yogurt or pudding.

February 2015 Healthy Surprise Box 4

The next items include easy and healthy snacks that you can keep in your car, purse, or school bag to fight hunger on the go.

9. PocketFuel Banana Blueberry Almond Butter Blend - This almond butter snack is vegan and free of gluten, dairy, and soy. This energy boosting product contains 169 calories. It’s perfect as a mid afternoon snack. I ate mine with an apple.

10. Veggie-Gos Carrot Ginger Chewy Fruit & Veggie Snacks - The only ingredients in this snack are organic fruit  and vegetable purees. Each pack contains half a serving of fruit and half a serving of veggies. It’s also gluten free and does not contain any added sugar. This is a great replacement for chewy candies or sugary fruit snacks.

11. Laughing Giraffe Organics Chocolate Snakaroons - There’s nothing that I love more than cookies, especially when they’re gluten-free, non-GMO, vegan, high in fibre, and nutrient-rich. These are a great alternative to store-bought cookies containing preservatives and refined sugar. They have a very rich, chewy texture that really satisfies a dessert craving.

12. Apple Raspberry Just Fruit Bar - This bar is free of preservatives, gluten, added sugar, dairy, nuts, and soy. It’s also vegan. This is a great afternoon snack when you’re looking for an energy boost without consuming processed sugar.

13. Nakd Cocoa Mint Raw Fruit & Nut Bar - This gluten, wheat, and dairy free bar is made with dates, cashews, raisins, cocoa, natural mint, and chocolate flavouring. It’s a much healthier alternative to a traditional chocolate bar or even a sugary granola bar. It’s vegan, cold-pressed, and free of added sugars or syrups. It’s easy to chew and has a rich, natural chocolate flavour with hints of refreshing mint.

February 2015 Healthy Surprise Box 5

The last category features one of my favourite, non-sweet snacks—olives!

14 and 15. Oloves Lemon & Rosemary and Chili & Oregano Natural Green Pitted Olives - These olives are low in calories, low in saturated fat, gluten, wheat, dairy, and nut free, and vegan. One package is only 50 calories. I love the idea of flavoured olives. They are healthy and a great alternative to other flavoured snacks like potato chips. The flavour is present but not overwhelming and the olives are very fresh and juicy. Before I knew it, the whole package was gone.

And here are some pictures of that amazing chocolate gift box. I’m definitely putting this on my wish list.

Overall, I’m so impressed with Healthy Surprise Box. The amount of snacks and the variety of options make this box worth trying. Sometimes it’s difficult for me to find healthy snacks that actually taste good, so I think it would be very exciting to receive them by mail every month or even a few times a year.  I will also keep Healthy Surprise Box in mind for gifts, especially for my friends and family members who are always hard to buy for because they never want or need anything. Who wouldn’t want or need healthy snacks? It’s also a nice care package to send to a student who is away for school and struggling to eat healthy between classes, studying, homework, and adjusting to a new city and social environment.

Healthy Surprise Box was kind enough to allow me to give a Classic Box away to one of my lucky readers. The giveaway is open until March 7, 2015 at 11:59 PM. The box will be sent directly to the winner by Healthy Surprise. It’s open to those in Canada and the USA. To enter, please fill out the Rafflecopter form below. If you are an international reader, you can enter my worldwide giveaways by clicking HERE or visiting the Giveaways page on my blog.

Lots of Love from GLOSSYBOX

IMG 3238

Soon February will end and spring will be just around the corner. Before this month that we all love (or love to hate) passes us by, I wanted to tell you about the February box from GLOSSYBOX so that you have the opportunity to get your hands on it before it’s too late.

This box is designed to soften even the most jaded of hearts. From innovative, fruit-scented body and hair cleansers to rosy, feminine color cosmetics, this box is a girl’s best friend and a great present (perfect for a belated Valentine’s Day gift).

Every February box will include a full-sized Yogi Flow Foaming Shower Gel from Rituals Cosmetics, which transforms into a rich, fragrant foam on contact with water. It combines the ancient Ayurvedic ingredients of sweet almond oil and Indian rose, the classic symbol of romance. All subscribers will also receive their future favorite hair product, Unwash Bio-Cleansing Conditioner, which replaces the classic two-step shampoo and conditioning process with a gentle moisturizing and volumizing formula. It also smells divine.

In addition the February GLOSSYBOX comes with three more products. The cost of the box is $21. The company ships to the USA and now ships to Canada as well!

December 2014 Beauty Box Five

The December 2014 Beauty Box Five features products to help us feel relaxed and refreshed during this busy time of year. The products are meant to encourage us to take a few minutes to pamper ourselves and maintain a bright complexion all December long. If you are unfamiliar with Beauty Box Five, it is a subscription service that sends its members five cosmetic samples each month. The service is open to those in Canada and the USA, and subscriptions start at $12 per month. The best part is that shipping is free!
The brands that Beauty Box Five works with are also very impressive (see them all HERE).
Now let’s talk about the December items…

1. Lucky Brand Lucky Number 6 | Retail: $15.99-$60.00 – This first sample is a fragrance featuring notes of lotus, tiger lily, cashmere woods, and jasmine. While I normally prefer sweet scents over florals, I really like this scent. It’s not a strong overpowering floral but more of a light, sweeter floral that’s perfect for winter.
2. Absolute! New York Nail Polish Remover Pads | Retail:  $2.99 for 32 Pads – I love these mini nail polish remover pads. They are perfect for travel and have a fresh lemon scent. This is a full size product.
3. Nanacoco Nail Polish | Retail: $3.95 for 0.5 fl oz – The shade that I received of this glitter polish is called Beatbox and it’s from Nanacoco’s Sprinkle of Color line. This is a full size bottle. I will be saving this pretty glitter for an upcoming giveaway that will feature multiple glitter polishes. Look out for that post if you are interested in winning glitter polishes!

4. Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Moisturizer | Retail: $65 for $1.7 oz – Although this is my least favourite item in this month’s box, that’s only because I have very sensitive skin and am not usually interested in trying new skincare products. That said, this product does sound wonderful with its organic, antioxidant-rich plant and fruit oils formula that helps reduce wrinkles, combat sun damage, and hydrate skin. I will pass this on to my mom.
5. Jaqua Bath & Body Rose Bouquet Facial Mist | Retail: $16.50 for 15 ml – I think this is my favourite product in this month’s box. I use rose water on my face daily after showering to hydrate and calm redness. I’m looking forward to trying this brand’s version of rose water. As an added bonus, this is a full size product!
Overall, I am very happy with the December 2014 box from Beauty Box Five. In fact, it may be the most impressive box that I have received this year. The three full size products more than pay for the box and I will get a lot of use out of the majority of the items. I’m looking forward to next month’s box and can’t wait to see what Beauty Box Five has in store for 2015!

September 2014 Beauty Box Five

The September 2014 Beauty Box Five features fall products. The products are meant to help us take care of ourselves and embrace new trends this season.
Now let’s talk about the September items…

1. Nicka K New York Eyelight Crayon | Retail: $4.49 for 0.056 oz – I love the concept of this smooth shadow stick that gives the lids a pigmented pop of colour. Currently, I’m going through a neutral shadow phase so I will save this pretty purple shadow for a giveaway.
2. Sally Hansen Toe Spacers | Retail: $1.99 for 1 pair – How cute are these pink toe spacers? Us at-home pedicure lovers can never have too many!
3. My Beauty Spot Nail Polish | Retail: $24.99 for a set of six containing 0.4 fl oz each (approx. $4 each) – This shimmery steel grey polish is fast drying and pigmented. While I think the colour is perfect for fall, I have received other polishes in a similar shade from BB5 so I will save this one for a giveaway.
4. Chrislie Formulations 3-in-1 Eye Bright: | Retail: $40 for 0.5 fl oz (sample contains .17 oz) – This serum is meant to be used overnight to make your eye area smoother, brighter, and firmer. It also reduces dark circles. While I’m always a bit hesitant to try new eye creams due to my sensitive eye area, this one sounds promising so I will give it a try.
5. Natural Style by FUBU Deep Conditioner & Co-Wash | Retail: $9.99 for 12 oz – This sulfate and paraben free formula strengthens hair to minimize frizz. It contains shea butter and replenishing oils. I’m looking forward to trying this product as it sounds like the perfect treatment to use on colour treated hair.
Overall, I think the September 2014 box from Beauty Box Five contained a nice assortment of makeup, hair, nail, and skincare products although they may not have as high of a value as those in previous boxes.  I’m looking forward to next month’s box!
